Welcome to Children’s Ministry at Second Street!
Matthew 19:14 (The Message)
But Jesus intervened: "Let the children alone, don't prevent them from coming to me. God's kingdom is made up of people like these."
Deuteronomy 11:19 (The Message)
Place these words on your hearts. Get them deep inside you. Tie them on your hands and foreheads as a reminder. Teach them to your children. Talk about them wherever you are, sitting at home or walking in the street; talk about them from the time you get up in the morning until you fall into bed at night.
Proverbs 22:6 (The Message)
Point your kids in the right direction - when they're old they won't be lost.

Thanks for stopping by to learn a little bit about Children’s Ministry here at 2nd Street Community Church. Children are a very important part of 2nd Street, and this is the place you can find out more information about our children's program:

Nursery Adventures
Nursery care is offered during both the 9:00am service, and the 10:45am service for infants and children up to age three. The nusrery is staffed with one paid adult and one volunteer, both of whom care for our littlest ones. Our teachers often provide music, creative play, quiet time, and stories for those able to participate. Parents are always welcome to remain with their little ones if they desire.

Junior Adventures
This class is offered during the 9:00 service. Junior Adventures is for children 4 years old through 1st grade (currently attending 1st grade). The children this age start out in service with the adults, and participate in the large group worship time singing, drama, etc. At dismissal time they go to their classroom, where they have a bible lesson, craft activities, snacks and other fun things. We also have two adults in this class, although the lead teacher rotates about every 6 weeks. This class uses "FaithWeaver" curriculum by Group Publishing.
Here is a brief glimpse of what our 4yrs - 1st grade will be learning during the 9:00am hour:
September 7 - God Creates the World
September 14 - No lesson this week, children will attend service with their parents at GFU
September 21 - Adam and Eve Sin
September 28 - Cain Kills Abel
October 5 - Noah Builds the Ark
October 12 - God Floods the Earth
October 19 - People Build a Tower at Babel
October 26 - Abram Follows God's Direction
November 2 - Lot and Abram Divide the Land
November 9 - God Makes a Covenant with Abram
November 16 - Abraham has Three Visitors
November 23 - Isaac is Born
November 30 - God Cares for Hagar and Ishmael

N.W. Adventures
This class is offered during the 9:00 service for the children who are 2nd grade through 5th grade. These children do not start out in the service, but rather start out, and remain out in the "Shed" for a bible story, singing, snacks, puppets and more! Parents can have the kids escorted across the parking lot by the teachers/assistants or pick their children up at the Shed. We have two weekly teachers in this class, Jack Parkinson and Tim Benham.
At this time the lessons will roughly follow the teaching that the adults have in service.
All of the staff and volunteers (both adult and teens) who work with children are required to fill out a volunteer application, a background check and provide three references. We also ask that each volunteer read and sign a copy of our Child Protection and Abuse Prevention Policy. All of these steps are mandatory for any volunteers who work with children. We are always looking for more volunteers and teen helpers for each age groups and both services! If you are interested please contact Melinda Stephens (melinda@2ndstreet.org) for further information, including help printing out the Child Protection Policy, application and background check paperwork.
